2nd Shift Lathe Machinist
Description

We are seeking a skilled Lathe Machinist to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will program, set up, operate, and maintain CNC and manual lathe equipment to produce precision metal and plastic components. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, experienced in blueprint interpretation and machining processes, and committed to producing high-quality parts while maximizing machine efficiency and minimizing downtime.

  • 2nd shift is from 3PM to 1AM Monday thru Thursday
Responsibilities

● Interpret blueprints, job routers, and work orders to determine machining requirements and setup procedures.
● Set up and operate CNC Lathes (Mazak) and manual lathes for turning and milling
applications.
● Select and install appropriate cutting tools based on material properties and machining requirements.
● Program machines using Mazatrol, Mastercam (preferred), including speeds, feeds,
cutting depths, and tool paths.
● Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments.
● Monitor machining operations and make adjustments to maintain required tolerances
and product quality.
● Clean, deburr, and prepare completed parts for finishing and shipment.
● Meet or exceed production goals for setup time, cycle time, and overall job efficiency.
● Create and maintain setup sheets, tooling records, and part programs to improve future production.
● Update job documentation to improve repeat-order efficiency.
● Perform routine preventative maintenance and maintain a clean, organized work area.
● Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in machining processes and
productivity.
● Share technical knowledge and mentor fellow team members when appropriate.

Qualifications

● High school diploma or equivalent.
● Two-year technical or trade school degree in Precision Machining, Machine Tool
Technology, or a related field.
● CNC Lathe machining 2 Years+
● Experience working with a variety of materials, machining practices, CNC programming, and process development.

Skills

● Blueprint reading and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
● Mathematics including geometry, algebra, and trigonometry
● CNC and manual lathe operation
● Cutting tools and tooling applications
● Workholding and fixturing methods
● Material properties, cutting speeds, and feeds
● Precision measuring equipment
● Shop safety procedures and standard operating practices                                                      ● Program and operate CNC controls using G-Code.
● Utilize CAM/ERP software, Mastercam, Vericut, ProShop, etc.
● Calculate dimensions, tolerances, and machining offsets.
● Perform precision inspections using micrometers, calipers, indicators, and comparators.
● Operate computers and manage machining files.
● Monitor machining processes and troubleshoot production issues.
